MIXED BLESSINGS
I'm sorry Mel Gibson has to face criticism for this story of sacrifice. But their are many who will see the film and their lives be forever changed. Robin Young Oklahoma City, Okla.
Thanks for highlighting Mel and his brilliant movie The Passion of the Christ. Words can't express the respect and admiration I have for Mel to tell the truth as he sees it. To me it's the greatest movie ever made about the most beautiful love story ever told. Melanie Pedrick Federal Way, Wash. I have no doubt the hand of God was on Mel Gibson when he made The Passion. Liz Carden Murfreesboro, Tenn. The poignant imagery Mr. Gibson used to demonstrate Christ's love for mankind pierced my heart more then the whipping scenes ever could. Katie Heid Owosso, Mich. Excuse me for not being politically correct, but as a Catholic, I ran out of The Passion. Who says we must endure gore to prove our Christianity? Molly McCauley-Falgout Austin, Texas Is it not Jesus's rise from the dead the historical account we should focus on? In violence and terrorism, we are all torn apart with suffering, but in the resurrection we're united toward healing. Gibson missed the point, especially in light of the fact this film reflects his own rise from the depths of despair. Lauren Conroy Delray Beach, Fla. As a Jewish women, I went to see The Passion with an open mind but felt I was slapped in the face. It was absolutely anti-Semitic and promotes hatred. In biblical terms I'm trying to turn the other cheek. Mr. Gibson, I'm going to try really hard to forgive you. Ann Miriam Segal Los Angeles, Calif. I can always count on Leah Rozen's movie reviews. If she hates a film, I go see it. But for the first time ever, she has managed to put into words the way I felt about The Passion. I was shell-shocked by the gratuitous violence that will enable Newmarket Films to laugh all the way to the bank. Leah, I'll try to take your advice more often. Lois Cronin Santa Clarita, Calif. Leah Rozen's review was deplorable. Mel Gibson did not make up this story, and I don't believe this movie promotes anti-Semitism. The only way someone could leave this film being anti-Semitic is if they went into the theater being anti-Semitic. Shauna Ellison Scottsdale, Ariz. |
DISTRUST FUND
Chuck Yeager has the right to do with his money exactly as he wants. If he wants to pile it up, douse it with gas and light a match, that's his right. It's his money-not his children's. What a bunch of spoiled brats!
Ann Brooks Zebulon, N.C. WEDDED MISS
Of course Randi Coy of TV's My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance did it for the money. Why else would a sane person subject herself, and worse, her family to nationwide public humiliation? This phone bride is a disgrace to women and real brides everywhere. I'd rather eat bugs than put myself and my family through such a thing. Kristen Henthorn Mansfield, Ohio
WAR CRIMES
I would certainly consider war veteran B.G. Burkett, who has spent years uncovering Vietnam wannabes, a hero. I was wounded in Vietnam and having lost several friends there, I agree that what these phonies are doing is "stealing from the dead.'' Your story made me pleased and proud. Douglas A. Dale North, S.C.
PURSE STRINGS
After reading your article about purse parties, I found it interesting that legitimate manufacturers are upset because "industry experts estimate they are losing millions of dollars a year to counterfeit merchandise.'' While I don't condone breaking the law, I doubt manufacturers are losing money from people who can't afford a $500 purse. And people who can afford the real thing will continue to spend their money to prove they can. Maxine Gruner Pomona, N.Y.
